Flexible User or Admin Filtering
Identifying which emails to block is a decision that can be made at administrator level, or by the end user.
Web Based Quarantine
The Tierzero SpamBlocker will send the user or administrator a daily web based report. Quarantined emails can be white listed, deleted, or delivered to your inbox per settings. If after 30 days no action is taken, quarantined messages are deleted.
Outlook Spam Tagging
If you are using Microsoft Outlook, you can install their SPAM PLUG-IN. If a spam email does make it through our system, hitting the red spam button in Outlook will delete, it and report it to Tierzero TAC. This 'trains' our system to block future email at the gateway.
Virus Scanning
With virus scanning enabled, all messages processed by the Tierzero SpamBlocker are checked for viruses using the latest up-to-date definitions. Detected viruses will not be quarantined, nor will they be delivered to the intended recipient - even if the message has been white listed by a block/accept filter. The Tierzero SpamBlocker firewall checks for new viruses every 15 minutes, protecting you against even 0 hour threats.
Tierzero SpamBlocker Uses Proven Methods
- Blacklisting of websites & domains: The first level of defense is to block known offenders. The Tierzero SpamBlocker automatically blocks senders of known spam based on our custom "learned" Spam and responsibly maintained Anti-Spam websites.
- Keyword scanning of emails: This can be configured on a per domain basis. Our scanning methods include a scoring system, such that emails are scored based on a number of criteria. If the score is above a threshold, then that email is flagged as spam. The Tierzero SpamBlocker comes with default criteria and thresholds which moderately defend you against spam. You can change these thresholds at any time, down to a per-user level if wanted.
- Checksum technology: Checksum technology is used to keep track of the number of times a particular message has appeared on the Internet. Once a message reaches a "spam" threshold, it is categorized as known spam.
- Message authenticity checking: Several algorithms are utilized to verify the authenticity of a message. Some of these are simple checks to verify that the "from address" is authentic. Some are more complex, relating to SMTP protocol.
- Black lists and White lists: Domains, IPs, and email addresses can be blocked or white listed (allowed through). These lists may be maintained on a per user or administrator level.
- Rate controls: Utilized to stop denial of service attacks as well as dictionary based Spam attacks. These are integrated and automatic in the Tierzero SpamBlocker.
- File type attachment blocking: You can block certain types of files, such as Visual Basic Scripts (VBS), PIF files, and SCR (screen saver executables) files from entering your company.
