Business Voice FAQ’s
Do the calls go out over the Internet?
No. You are connected to Tierzero with a private data connection that runs from your office to our secure data center. Once the call reaches us we route it directly to the person you are calling. However, if you have a remote location where we cannot provide a direct connection, or if you plug your phone into a different location, your call will go over the Internet until it reaches Tierzero, where we then route it to its destination without going over the Internet. If you have a good Internet connection at your remote location your call should be clear.
I have an IP PBX. Will it work with my phone system??
Many of the popular IP PBXs have been tested with our service connecting via SIP. Those include various models of: Aastra, Adtran, Alcatel-Lucent, Asterisk, Avaya, Centrepoint, Cisco Systems, Cisco-Linksys, Digium, Epygi Technologies, Fonality, IPFX, LG-Nortel, Microsoft, Mitel, Nortel Networks, Panasonic, Samsung , Siemens and Sphere Comms. If your IP PBX is not on this list it still may work. Just give us a call and we can check it out.
I have a regular PBX – will it work with your service?
Business Voice works just like traditional phone lines with PBX’s that take PRI and Analog / FSX.
Do I need to buy any new equipment?
Depending on your phone system and whether you adding more lines than you had, you may need a new card in your PBX. However, if you are just switching for the same service you shouldn’t need any new equipment.
Will you configure my PBX?
You will need your PBX to configure your PBX. There are too many different types of PBX’s for Tierzero to be proficient at servicing them. If you do not have a vendor we can recommend one.
Do I pay for long distance?
Long distance to the 48 continental states is included in the price of service.
Do I need to keep my lines from the phone company?
No. When you move your service to us you no longer need the phone company. We handle the service end-to-end.
Can I keep my existing phone numbers?
Yes. We move or “port” the numbers to our service. This is included in the price. However, if your phone numbers are out-side of your rate center there is an additional charge.
Will I have any downtime when I switch?
There will be some downtime during the transition. Much depends on the carrier you are switching from. If all goes as planned your downtime should be around 15 minutes.
What about Internet access?
Internet access is usually bundled with your Business Voice since it works on the same data line.
Can I send faxes?
Yes. The best results are achieved with new fax machines and fax modems. The optimum speed is 14,400 bps.
Business Voice Installation
Business Voice can be turned up in 5 to 30 days depending on if you are getting new telephone numbers or if you are porting numbers. Your Tierzero data connection (T1, T3, Business or Metro Ethernet) needs to be installed before Business Voice can be turned up. Generally you will need to engage your PBX vendor to configure the voice lines on your PBX to complete the installation.
